Science:
We will continue using science tools safely in order to make observations and how we can record these in our science journals.

Discussions At Home:

Keep having great discussions at home about what a GROWTH MINDSET looks like in school and at home.

First grade will receive their iPads next week.  While we are all very excited to have individual iPads, please know that these iPads will remain at school and will only be used under the direction of the teachers.  The iPads do not take the place of pencil/paper or teacher facilitated lessons, instead they are used to extend, research, and collaborate on units of study.  We will be talking about proper use of the iPads and we would love for these discussions to carry over into the home.

In Other News:

Thank you to all the parents who have brought in extra supplies for our classroom.  WE APPRECIATE YOU!!!!

If you haven't purchased your grade level shirt, please make sure you do that as soon as possible.  PTO is working very hard on getting shirts to those people that have already ordered.

September 13th  - Special Friends Day

Look At What We Are Learning:

Language Arts:
Next week we will begin our assessments for sight words and reading levels.  We will also talk about the care of books in our classroom and introduce writing journals.

Social Studies:

We will talk about having a GROWTH MINDSET and what that looks like for a first grade learner.  We hope that these conversations about growth mindset will carry over into your homes.  It is a very powerful tool for each first grade learner!

Math:

Next week we will learn to subitize (instantly recognize a group of objects).  For example, when you see three dots, you do not have to count each individual dot.  Instead, you instantly know that there are three dots.  This is called subitizing.

Science:

We will be learning what it means to be a scientist.  We will also work with science tools in a safe way to explore the world around us.

Discussions At Home:

Talk about what a GROWTH MINDSET looks like at your house.  Practice saying the growth mindset vocabulary words that will be coming home.

In Other News:

We are so excited to begin a new school year with all of you!  First grade is off to a great start!  Our first grade blog will be updated every Friday.  Please make sure to check it each week for important reminders and curriculum updates.
