Look At What We Are Learning:

Language Arts:

  • In spelling, we will begin our weekly spelling rules and tests.  Please look for the spelling note that will come home on Monday.  It will explain our weekly spelling rules and what our spelling curriculum looks like.  The spelling rule we will work on next week are words that have the short /a/ sound.
  • In reading, we are working on building our stamina as readers.  We are also using flexible seating to find our comfiest spots to read in.
  • In writing we are beginning our unit on Narrative Writing.  We love being able to write a fiction and nonfiction stories that have a beginning, middle, and end!

Social Studies:

We will begin our study of community and how we are a part of a community.  We will be talking about different types of communities, rules of communities, and jobs within the community.

Math:

Next week, we will continue to subitize numbers. The goal is for our learners to instantly recognize numbers.  Please see the link below to practice subitizing at home.

Subitizing up to 5 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yyz_OycV4A

Subitizing up to 10 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRR9LK3zfho

Subitizing up to 20 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVjvswqL-Ow

Science:
We will continue using science tools safely in order to make observations and how we can record these in our science journals.

Discussions At Home:

Keep having great discussions at home about what a GROWTH MINDSET looks like in school and at home.

First grade will receive their iPads next week.  While we are all very excited to have individual iPads, please know that these iPads will remain at school and will only be used under the direction of the teachers.  The iPads do not take the place of pencil/paper or teacher facilitated lessons, instead they are used to extend, research, and collaborate on units of study.  We will be talking about proper use of the iPads and we would love for these discussions to carry over into the home.

In Other News:

Thank you to all the parents who have brought in extra supplies for our classroom.  WE APPRECIATE YOU!!!!

If you haven't purchased your grade level shirt, please make sure you do that as soon as possible.  PTO is working very hard on getting shirts to those people that have already ordered.
