Language Arts:
  • Spelling - We will continue to study compound words.  Our test will be March 6th
  • Writer's Workshop - We are working on written pieces to showcase at Open House.  We are excited to show you our published book!  
  • Reader's Workshop - We will be choosing and practicing books to read to you at Open House
Math:   
Learners will use concrete and pictorial models to solve comparison word problems within 20.

Science:

Learners will create a digital bar graph that reflects the temperature of two different locations.  They will discuss what they notice and make predictions on what will happen next.

Field trip permission slips went home this week.  Signed permission slips and money are due to TCE by Wednesday, March 4th.  Don't forget to sign up to chaperone! 

Class picture day is March 5th.  Don't forget to order your class picture online.  Our first graders always love having a class picture at the end of the year!!

    We want to make sure that everyone who wants to register for the program gets registered. Could you email your student's parents and remind them to register soon if they want to sign up for the program?

    • Writer's Workshop - We will work on editing our rough draft when we make a final copy of a writing piece.  
    • Reader's Workshop - We are using our books to discover nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
      Social Studies:  
      We will talk about how we have grown and changed throughout first grade.  We will use adjectives to help describe ourselves and how we have changed this year.

      Math:   
      We will finish up our unit on counting coins.  We will be revisiting word problems.  Learners will create and solve word problems up to 20.

      We will begin creating a booklet about seasons.  The children are excited about showing their learning!  The booklet will be displayed at open house.

          Mark your Calendars!!!!  First grade is going on a field trip on April 2nd to Kidzania in Frisco.  More information will follow but we wanted to let you know in case you would like to accompany us and need to take a day off of work. We can't wait!! 

          3rd Annual TCE Cultural Night
          Mark your calendars for Thursday, February 20th from 5:30-7:00pm for Town Center’s 3rd Annual Cultural Night! Learner art will also be showcased in our gym! Last year was such a great time celebrating our cultures with family, friends, food, and fun! A flyer came home in your child's backpack this week. We hope you can sign up to share a traditional dish! This is one of our favorite nights!! We hope you can come and celebrate with us!!

            • We will NOT have new spelling words next week.  We will use this time to review one of our long vowel rules...........When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking!!!

            • Reader's Workshop - We will continue using our reading super powers to increase our fluency and comprehension! 
              Social Studies:  
              We will talk about friendship, kindness, and compassion as we complete some fun valentine activities!  We can't wait for our party!!

              We can't wait to celebrate Valentine's Day!!  Our room moms are busy getting a wonderful party together for us.  All parents are welcome on February 13th from 2-3.  A letter will come home with your child about valentine cards for  friends in our class.  They LOVE to open their valentine cards at our party.   If you have any questions about the cards, please let your teacher know.
