Look At What We Are Learning:
Language Arts:- Making the long /o/ sound using silent e.
- During Writer's Workshop we are going to be starting our "How to" writing. We will be concentrating on putting actions in sequential order when writing.
- During Reader's Workshop we will continue to use our reading strategies to increase fluency when reading.
- During Grammar Talks we will discuss verbs and how we use them in a sentence.
We will begin our study of our NATIONAL SYMBOLS. We will talk about the Statue of Liberty, the Alamo, the Liberty Bell, and the American Flag.
Math:
Learners will learn strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. We will continue to decompose and compose numbers up to 100.

Science:
We will be learning about the different types energy, (sound, light, and heat) and how we use these in our everyday lives.
Discussions At Home:
Say a two digit number. Ask your child to tell which digit names the tens and which digit names the ones. Repeat with different numbers.
In Other News:
Library: Please don't forget to bring back your library books each week. New books can only be checked out once the old books have been returned.
All first grade classes will be attending the library on Mondays beginning next week. ALL library books are due back to your homeroom on Monday. New books will not be able to be checked out until the previous week's books are returned.
