Look At What We Are Learning:

Language Arts:
  • In spelling we will start our study of  "silent e" to make a long vowel sound.
  • During Writer's Workshop we will be taking our post assessment on narrative writing.  Wow, we have come a long way since the start of this unit!!!
  • During Reader's Workshop we are concentrating on finding those snap words in the books we read  and noticing how good reader's know when a sentence begins (capital letter) and when it ends (end marks).
Social Studies:

Next week we will finish up our discussion of rules and laws.

Math:

Learners will practice solving an addition or subtraction number sentence within 20.  We will explain how to solve the problem by using words, manipulatives, pictures, and a number sentence.  We will focus on sums up to 20 and differences within 20.

Science:

This week we will be learning about changes that happen to liquids and solids when heat is added or removed. We will use vocabulary like melting and freezing.

Discussions At Home:
Create a mystery number for your child.  For example, "I am thinking of a number that is the same as 1 ten and 4 ones. What is my number? "  Challenge your child and ask them the following.."I am thinking of a number that is the same as 1 ten and 12 ones.  What is my number? " Have fun discussing numbers!

In Other News:

This Fall we will be turning our very own TCE Garden into the TCE Pumpkin Patch!  We are so excited about all of the wonderful learning activities and curriculum connections we will be able to make in our school garden!  If you would like to help us turn our school garden into the TCE Pumpkin Patch, please consider donating a pumpkin (any size or type) to our garden!  You can begin sending in pumpkins as soon as possible, and we will take them to the garden. You can also drop them off in the garden on your own!
Thank you so much!

Library:  Please don't forget to bring back your library books each week.   New books can only be checked out once the old books have been returned.

All first grade classes will be attending the library on Mondays beginning next week.  ALL library books are due back to your homeroom on Monday.  New books will not be able to be checked out until the previous week's books are returned.
