- In Reader's Workshop we will concentrating on reading with a smooth voice when reading with a partner. Many of us have also moved into a new reading level which means we will have more challenging books to read during Reader's Workshop. Way to go first grade!!
- In Writer's Workshop we are talking about setting grammar goals when writing.
- During Grammar Talks we will review our grammar rules by looking for them in our writing.
We are beginning to talk about different cultures, traditions, and celebrations that we have. Look for a family project homework assignment to come home next Thursday. If you have any questions about it, please let your social studies teacher know.
Math:
Learners will continue to solve and generate word problems. Learners will use objects and pictorial models to solve word problems involving adding, subtracting and comparing sets within 20 and unknowns such as 3 + ? = 12, 5 = ? + 3

Science:
Your child will be learning about the components and properties of different types of soil.
Discussions At Home:
What are some traditions that you have in your family?
What celebrations does your family celebrate throughout the year?
If the weather is nice, take a walk or visit a park, playground, or yard. Bring a bucket and shovel, and dig a hole. Look into the hole to see if your child can identify layers. Talk about how the top layer of dirt is different from the cool, clammy dirt below, and note if the soil turns to solid rock at some point.
Please continue to skip count by 5s and 10s to 120.
In Other News:
As the temperatures begin to turn cooler, please remember that if the "feels like" temperature is 33 degrees or above we will be going outside for a little recess. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for those chilly recess days. Thank you!We loved celebrating Veterans Day on Monday with a special ceremony. We heard from many veterans who served in the armed forces. It was a very special time at TCE!
If you would like to accompany your child during the Turkey Trot Run, we will be running during specials. This will be on November 22nd from 12:30 - 1:20. Please sign in (make sure you have your background check) at the office before the run.
