Look At What We Will Be Learning Next Week:

Language Arts:
  • Spelling:  No new spelling for next week!!  We will be reviewing short and long vowels.
  • In Reader's Workshop we will focus on building stamina and how to stay focused when reading.  We are also enjoying partner reading.  We love being "shoulder to shoulder" with a partner to read our leveled books.
  • In Writer's Workshop we are are concentrating on making sure that our sentences have a subject and a verb and using what our Grammar Talks teaches us about writing.
  • During Grammar talks we will continue to talk about how a sentence must have a subject and a verb.
Social Studies:
During Social Studies we will finish up our unit honoring Veterans by celebrating Veterans Day on Monday.  We have been writing letters to our Veterans that are being sent to our troops around the world.

Math:

Learners will continue to use objects and pictorial models to solve and generate word problems involving joining, separating, and comparing sets within 20 and unknowns in problems such as
2 + 4 = ?
3 + ? = 7
5 = ? - 3

Science:

Learners will observe, compare, describe, and sort components of soil and rocks by size, texture and color.

We would love every learner to bring a rock to school.  The rock must fit in the palm of your hand and must not have any sentimental attachments.  We can not guarantee these rocks will be returned.  We will be using these rocks  for some hands on investigations.

Discussions At Home:

What can we do to show honor to our veterans and our country?

Please continue to discuss all the ways to compose a two digit number.

Please continue to skip count by 5's, and 10's to 120.

In Other News:

Don't forget to bring back your library books every Monday.

It was so great to see so many families at STEM night yesterday.  We had a blast!!

First Grade Pics:

Getting the TCE garden ready for some
winter planting!!

Reading with a partner helps us be more engaged and gives us someone to help us when we get stuck.

During Mind Missions, we
designed a new way for Patty
the Milk maid to carry her milk
across town.

Adding handles to help carry
the "milk" across the room for our
Mind Mission.  Great idea!!

Twinning!!!

What strategies should we use when
putting sentences together?
Best of Friends!

Friday Smiles!
