Look At What We Will Be Learning Next Week:

Language Arts:
  • Spelling:  We will learn the rules of adding "s" and "es" to the end of a noun or verb.
  • Reader's Workshop: We will begin assessing our learners for sight word recognition.  The goal for the 2nd 9 week report card is 35 sight words.  We will also be assessing reading levels.  The goal is a DRA level 10.
  • Writer's Workshop: We will continue to review our grammar rules when writing as well as how to use transition words in our writing pieces.
Social Studies:
We will continue to talk about different cultures, traditions, and celebrations that we each have.  If you have not turned in your traditions/customs project, please make sure to bring it as soon as possible!  We are LOVING listening to the traditions and customs of our families.  Everyone is doing an amazing job!  Thank you for helping!  All projects are on display in the first grade hallway.

Math:

We have been working hard generating and solving word problems.  We will continue this skill and discuss how you can use a known part to find an unknown number.  Learners can use addition or subtraction with the known parts to find the unknown number.

Please see the link below to exercise while counting to 120 by 5s.

Science:

We will continue to discuss natural resources.

Discussions At Home:
Have your child explain how using subtraction can help him or her find the unknown number in an equation like 7 + ___ = 16.  Discuss different word problems that could represent that number.

In Other News:

As the temperatures begin to turn cooler, please remember that if the "feels like" temperature is 33 degrees or above we will be going outside for a little recess.  Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for those chilly recess days.  Thank you!

We are blown away at how wonderful our first graders are doing on their presentations of their custom/tradition.  We have some amazing families at TCE and we are enjoying learning about special memories of your families.  If you haven't turned in your project, please bring it on Monday as they were all due this week.  Thank you!!

First Grade Pics:
We learned that when presenting
you must have a clear, loud voice and
be able to answer questions from
the audience.
We found out that families are at the
heart of traditions!
We love to see so many questions
being asked of our presenters!!

We love looking at our presentations
and pictures of  us presenting!

Great math partners!
So much love!
Our popcorn bags came with motivational quotes
today!  Love it!!!

Playing by the Christmas tree
makes it just a little more special!

Happiness to a teacher is when someone
spills their water and when you go to get paper
towels, you realize that friends are already
taking care of it!

A teacher's lap is always big enough for
more than one friend!

CMSN band/choir performed a Winter Concert for us!
They were AWESOME!!!
When friends work together, they can easily
solve the game of "Perfection" before
the buzzer sounds!!
